Irene Tunanidas

Irene Tunanidas is a retired teacher, full-time caregiver, and author who transformed one of the worst challenges in life into a message of comfort and hope. Irene spent 30 years teaching deaf children after which she devoted her life to taking care of her mother after a tragic accident that left her paralyzed. Her book, Rising from the Abyss of Grief, was her foundation, based on those years of care giving, faith and resilience.

Irene has been living with deafness since she was a child, and she has always been strengthened by her family, community and her unswerving faith in God. Her narrative is a reflection of the struggles of loneliness, the healing effect of prayer and the strength it requires to stand up once more after the loss. Her writing is comfort and encouragement to anyone who is in the grieving process, reminding them that there are always some lights at the end of the darkest pathways and that hope, and faith can shine light.
